ANSWERS ABOUT HEARING AIDS AND MORE
Frequently Asked Questions
The act of not wearing a hearing aid in itself will not make your hearing get worse. What can make your hearing get worse is not wearing a hearing aid and needing to increase the volume on things like televisions, radios, and headphones, or needing people you are talking with to talk louder. We recommend you wear your hearing aid as directed by your doctor and audiologist. However, if you are not wearing your hearing device, be sure not to overdo it with turning up the volume.
Wax filters should be changed every month to maintain optimal performance and cleanliness of your hearing aid. Along with the wax filter, hearing aid tubing should be replaced every four to six months, and domes should be replaced every two to three months if your hearing aid has those components.
- Store batteries at normal room temperature.
- Wash your hands before changing batteries to keep oil and dirt from causing damage to the battery or clogging up the air pores.
- Leave the battery compartment in your hearing aid open at night to let moisture escape.
- Use a hearing aid storage container or dehumidifier.
- Check the expiration date on the package before you purchase new batteries. Try and purchase batteries with an expiry date that is a year in the future or further.
- Do not remove the protective seal on the battery until you’re ready to use it. Once the seal is removed, the battery begins to lose charge.
- Use rechargeable batteries. Our clinic staff would be happy to help you find a rechargeable option for your device.
Here at your local NexGen Hearing Center, we help you every step of the way in deciding if a hearing aid is best for you. We will conduct a free hearing test to determine if you currently have hearing loss. Once the hearing test has been completed, we will help you ascertain how much your hearing loss (if any) is affecting your daily life and/or activities. If you can’t hear as well as you could in the past, several aspects of your life could be impacted. Hearing loss can gradually increase without us even realizing, which lends weight to the idea of consistently having your hearing checked.

Our audiologists are experienced in treating a variety of levels of hearing loss and their effects. Don’t go another day wondering if your hearing could be improved. Let our experts help you improve your hearing to its highest levels.
A hearing aid will drastically improve the quality of your hearing. However, it cannot restore the natural function of your ear. If you require a hearing aid to improve your hearing, then you will need to rely on it to maintain your hearing.
