Dr. Ramia Narayanan and her support team have provided excellent service from the initial tests, thought the device selection and ongoing support. Dr. Narayanan provided three tests over several years before it was determined that I needed devices to assist me with my hearing. She worked with me to determine which hearing aids best suited my needs. She also worked with the specialists and helped to interpret their findings. This team is always available to provide support. Many thanks

Superior service. Well educated and well trained people from the front desk to the variety of audiological testing equipment behind the front desk. And, of course, very friendly and courteous. Always helpful in or outside of the office.....email and phone.

ANSWERS ABOUT HEARING AIDS AND MORE

Frequently Asked Questions

There are three things you should do to prepare for your hearing test:
  1. Avoid loud noises and areas for 16 hours before the test.
  2. Remove any earwax that may be in your ear canal. Do not use a Q-tip to do this as that will only push earwax deeper into the canal. Let our clinic staff take care of cleaning out your ears for you.
  3. Let us know if you take or have taken antibiotics that can damage hearing, such as gentamicin.

Hearing aid prices vary from several hundred dollars up to a few thousand, and it all depends on the technology level in each device. Affordable hearing aids and the more expensive options come with different features and capabilities.

You can think of hearing aids as coming in levels of gold, silver, or bronze. If your listening needs are simple, it just might be that even the most basic hearing aid is enough for you. If your life is more active and you find yourself wanting to hear better in more active and noisy listening environments, then a more sophisticated level of hearing aid features will give you more benefit.

NexGen Hearing also offers financing options to help you with an affordable option to improve your hearing. Learn more about our lease to hear financing and other hearing aid financing options.

The life of a hearing aid’s battery is impacted by many factors such as the hearing aid model, battery brand, battery technology, and how the device is used. The model of the hearing aid is integral in determining the life of the battery. Some hearing aids are better than others in terms of battery consumption while others offer features that will more quickly drain a battery. Batteries come in four common sizes (10, 312, 13, 675). Based on a 16 hour day of wear, the average lifespan for a standard battery is listed below:

Size 10: 3 – 7 days
Size 312: 3 – 10 days
Size 13: 6 – 14 days
Size 675: 9 – 20 days

If you prefer, rechargeable hearing aid batteries are also available for certain models of hearing aids that greatly improve the ease of replacing your batteries. Consult with your local NexGen Hearing aid practitioner for additional details.

Generally speaking, a hearing aid will last anywhere from three to seven years. There are a few factors which can impact the lifespan of a hearing aid including:
  • The quality of the hearing instrument
  • How well it is cleaned and maintained
  • How much wear and tear it experiences from being worn everyday
If you’ve had a hearing aid for a few years and notice it isn’t working as well as it was, contact our clinic and let us help you determine whether your hearing aid needs a tune up, or if it’s time for a replacement.

We do perform cerumen management at a small number of our NexGen Hearing clinics, most clinics prefer to provide this service to existing clients only. If you are a new client call ahead to find out which clinic offers cerumen management please call us at 1 (877) 606 6671.

If you have any history of outer ear pathology or ear infections, we recommend you see your family doctor.
