ANSWERS ABOUT HEARING AIDS AND MORE

Frequently Asked Questions

Hearing aid prices vary from several hundred dollars up to a few thousand, and it all depends on the technology level in each device. Affordable hearing aids and the more expensive options come with different features and capabilities.

You can think of hearing aids as coming in levels of gold, silver, or bronze. If your listening needs are simple, it just might be that even the most basic hearing aid is enough for you. If your life is more active and you find yourself wanting to hear better in more active and noisy listening environments, then a more sophisticated level of hearing aid features will give you more benefit.

NexGen Hearing also offers financing options to help you with an affordable option to improve your hearing. Learn more about our lease to hear financing and other hearing aid financing options.

The adjustment period for a new hearing aid can vary from person to person. Most people become fully adjusted to their hearing aid within two to three weeks, but some people can take up to four months to become completely comfortable with their hearing aid.

It’s important to remain patient while you get used to your hearing aid, but if you suspect that your hearing aid is not calibrated properly or it isn’t working for you, come back to see us and we’ll help you adjust your hearing aid or set you up with one that will work better for your needs.

At NexGen Hearing, we recommend that you have your hearing tested once per year as a precautionary measure, especially if you are frequently in noisy environments. Also, if you find yourself doing any of the following, it could mean you are experiencing hearing loss and should see us for a free hearing test:
  • You start turning up the television or radio louder than normal.
  • You struggle to understand speech and follow conversations.
  • You frequently twist your body or neck to point your ear towards what you’re listening to.
  • You regularly hear a high-pitched ringing noise (tinnitus).
  • You miss phone calls, doorbells or alarms.
If you are experiencing any of these situations, don’t delay or wait for it to improve naturally. Come see us for a free hearing test to determine the state of your hearing.

You do not need a referral from your family doctor to see an audiologist. If you suspect you are experiencing symptoms of hearing loss, it certainly is a good idea to discuss this with your doctor. However, you don’t need them to refer you to us in order to have your hearing tested.

If you believe your are experiencing hearing loss, don’t wait to see your doctor. Get in touch with us today for a free hearing test.

Generally speaking, a hearing aid will last anywhere from three to seven years. There are a few factors which can impact the lifespan of a hearing aid including:
  • The quality of the hearing instrument
  • How well it is cleaned and maintained
  • How much wear and tear it experiences from being worn everyday
If you’ve had a hearing aid for a few years and notice it isn’t working as well as it was, contact our clinic and let us help you determine whether your hearing aid needs a tune up, or if it’s time for a replacement.
